The San Francisco Giants are reportedly one of the teams that is preparing a trade package offer for the Washington Nationals in an effort to obtain superstar outfielder Juan Soto. We now know one of the names that is being requested of San Francisco by Washington in any trade package that is proposed.

Juan Soto trade rumors have the Washington Nationals requesting high-ranking prospect Kyle Harrison from the San Francisco Giants

According to a tweet from Susan Slusser, who covers the San Francisco Giants for The San Francisco Chronicle, any trade package for Soto coming from the Giants to the Nationals would have to include left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, currently in Double-A and San Francisco’s second-ranked prospect according to MLB.com. The 20-year-old was a third-round draft pick of the Giants during the 2020 MLB draft and earned the title of Low-A West Pitcher of the Year last year after leading the league with a 3.19 ERA and 14.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

Harrison was promoted to Double-A earlier this year, and has made eight starts since his promotion on May 24. He was named to the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, but struggled in his time on the mound, giving up two hits and four runs (one earned) in 0.2 innings worked (27 pitches).

Despite that speed bump, Harrison has generated plenty of buzz about his future with the Giants … but could that future come in Washington if the Giants decide the acquisition of Soto is worth the cost? Slusser agreed with a reply to her tweet on Harrison that it could take not only a mix of prospects, but also MLB talent and the Giants being willing to eat the contract that includes more than $50 million still owed to Patrick Corbin over the next two seasons plus the money deferred to 2025.

Imagine this hypothetical trade (involving Harrison) from MLB insider Jon Morosi…

The cost to acquire Soto will likely be massive in terms of prospects and money. Will the San Francisco Giants part with one of their top prospects and other players in order to land Soto? We will see if the Giants are willing to make what could be a National League-altering deal.
