The New York Mets are set to get a major boost at the trade deadline and it will not cost them anything.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets are planning to have deGrom make his next start at the major league level. While this is subject to change if he feels any soreness or if there is a setback, deGrom is slated to face the Nationals next week.

New York Mets getting at least one boost at trade deadline

As it is, there have been plenty of trade rumors swirling around the Mets. They have already made a pair of minor deals, adding Daniel Vogelbach and Michael Perez from the Pirates as they have looked to improve their depth.

Chances are, the Mets are not done either. They are still looking for help in their rotation and in the bullpen while eyeing upgrades at the designated hitter spot. The trade deadline could be a busy time in New York once again this year.

Even if the Mets do add another starter, they will not be able to bring anyone in that can make the same type of impact as deGrom. He has established himself as one of the best pitchers in the game when healthy, one of the few true aces left. Even if he is on the mound for the final two months of the regular season, he can still make a dramatic impact as the Mets look to return to the postseason.

But it all depends on his remaining healthy. Even if deGrom is back next week as anticipated, the Mets are still going to want to add depth to the rotation. deGrom, Max Scherzer, and Chris Bassitt have all missed various lengths of time this year. Getting their co-ace in deGrom back will be a major boost, but it should not be the end of their moves.
