It is a matter of time before Willson Contreras leaves the Chicago Cubs behind. He is already prepared for that next chapter.

All one has to do is look at his Instagram account to prove the validity of that statement. He has removed all references to the Cubs from his account, essentially leaving a blank canvas with just four posts.

It should not be a surprise that this has happened. Players scrub references to their former teams all the time when a trade is likely or if there is a disagreement. Kyler Murray infamously created a firestorm when he removed all references to the Arizona Cardinals from his social media before they agreed to an extension. It is a part of the game.

Trade winds have been swirling around Contreras for some time. There had been speculation that he would be traded away last year at the deadline, but the Cubs had hoped to contend again this year. Needless to say, that has not happened as they are struggling to stay out of the NL Central basement.

Contreras would certainly be a difference maker at the deadline. He has posted a .256/.371/.466 batting line in his 361 plate appearances entering Friday, hitting 14 homers and 20 doubles. Considering that several contenders desperately need help behind the plate, he is going to find himself elsewhere in a few days.

It also pays to be prepared. Contreras has done just that by clearing out his Instagram account, getting it ready for his next organization. That moment will be upon us all sooner than we may expect.
