Joc Pederson became a cult hero during his three months with the Atlanta Braves last year. A return may turn him into a legend.
Once again, the Braves are looking for help in the outfield. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Pederson would make sense once again if the Braves wanted a reunion.
Joc Pederson to Atlanta Braves makes sense once again
There is one major problem with this scenario – the Giants are not guaranteed to sell. Despite losing eight of their last nine games, they are just four games out of a Wild Card spot and could go on a run. At the same time, Feinsand noted that at least one other executive believes that the Giants are ready to listen to offers and sell.
There is also a matter of cost. The Braves acquired Pederson for minor league first baseman Bryce Ball last year, a relatively manageable return. Pederson would likely cost more this time as he has posted a 125 OPS+ with 17 homers and 12 doubles in his 285 plate appearances entering Saturday.
But that may not matter. Pederson quickly became the heart and soul of the Braves’ championship run. From his embracing their underdog status in the postseason to his pearl necklaces, he quickly became an icon for Braves fans.
This year is slightly different. The Braves are already in a playoff spot and are nipping at the Mets’ heels. Pederson would not be part of a revamped outfield that would change their fortunes seemingly overnight. However, with their opening in left and disappointing production amongst their outfielders not named Ronald Acuna Jr. and Michael Harris II, there is an opening for Pederson. It is one that could turn him into a Braves legend.
A reunion between the Atlanta Braves and Joc Pederson would make sense. It could also cement his legacy with the organization.
