New York Yankees trade rumors: Three teams interested in Joey Gallo
The New York Yankees want to be rid of Joey Gallo. They may actually have a chance to get something for him.
According to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, several teams have reached out to the Yankees about the much maligned outfielder. Nightengale lists the Brewers, Padres, and Rays specifically as teams that are interested in acquiring Gallo.
New York Yankees could have a taker for Joey Gallo
It is clear that Gallo’s time is up in New York. That was made apparent when the Yankees acquired Andrew Benintendi, shoving Gallo further down the bench. His performance with the Yankees, a .159/.291/.368 batting line with 25 homers in 501 plate appearances, was not what anyone had hoped for.
But there is still hope that a change of scenery will make a difference. Some players cannot handle New York and Gallo appears to be one of them. Despite his struggles with the Yankees, his immense power and ability to potentially change a game with one swing of the bat will continue to intrigue.
That is certainly the case with that trio of teams Nightengale mentioned. The Padres have coveted Gallo for years and were heavily involved in trade discussions before he was sent to New York. The Brewers and Rays need more power in their lineup, with the Rays in particular needing outfield help due to injuries.
At this point, it comes down to what the Yankees will accept for Gallo. A trade never materialized in the offseason because New York attempted to recoup a comparable package to what was sent to the Rangers instead of cutting their losses. Now they will get an even smaller fraction of that initial deal.
The New York Yankees do have potential takers for Joey Gallo. It is just a matter of what they would be willing to accept in return.
