Every time one thinks the Los Angeles Angels cannot sink any lower, they find a new level.

Such was the case in July. The Angels mustered a horrendous 6-18 record, that mark salvaged only because they won four of their last eight games to close out the month. It was discovered that Mike Trout is suffering from a rare back condition that will require treatment for the rest of his career during the month, a significant blow to the Angels’ hopes going forward.

Los Angeles Angels finally done with July

The month was a brutal one for reasons aside from Trout and their won-loss record. The Angels went nearly a month before winning a ballgame started by anyone not named Shohei Ohtani. As a team, the Angels had a .199 batting average, hardly a mark that would lead to a successful showing.

This month was just the latest chapter in what has been a strange season for the A’s. They had a no hitter and an immaculate inning thrown by the same pitcher, who was also bad enough in between where he was sent to Triple-A. The Angels have had a cycle and set a single game record for striking out. The deal to purchase Angel Stadium is dead and there is a pending lawsuit.

That does not even touch their performance in the standings. The Angels had been 11 games over .500 at one point, only to go on a 14 game losing streak and are currently 16 games under .500. They fired Joe Maddon only to watch his replacement implode. Even the interim manager had interim managers (two of them). It has been an interesting season, to say the least.

It is also one that is thankfully almost over. The Angels will be playing out the string once again, heading into the offseason with the same goal – to somehow find a way to return to the playoffs. Only this time, there will be the added pressure of Ohtani being in his last season before free agency to consider as well.

Next. Can the Angels afford Shohei Ohtani?. dark

July has finally come to an end for the Los Angeles Angels. They only have two more months left in what has been a chaotic season.
