The Chicago Cubs hold two of the best pieces that are most likely to be traded before today’s 6 p.m. (Eastern) trade deadline in catcher Willson Contreras and outfielder Ian Happ. Along with reliever David Robertson, the Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in Happ and the New York Mets are among at two teams that are heavily interested in Contreras, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

The Cubs could move Willson Contreras, Ian Happ, and David Robertson to the Dodgers or Mets

Since Nationals outfielder Juan Soto has been traded to the Padres, Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is the biggest and best trade option on the market. The Mets and Dodgers have interest in both him, outfielder Ian Happ, and reliever David Robertson.

Before Soto was traded, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic also reported that the Tampa Bay Rays are interested in Contreras. Even with landing Soto, the Padres still could be a team that is in on Contreras, Happ, and/or Robertson.

In 2022, Contreras was the National League’s starting catcher for the All-Star Game. He enters Trade Deadline day hitting .252/.365/.453 with 14 home runs, 38 RBI, 20 doubles, and a wRC+ of 132 in 86 games.

Happ was also an All-Star this year as he has hit .279/.360/.436 with an OPS+ of 123 in 99 games.

This year, Robertson has 14 saves in 36 games with an ERA of 2.23. He also has a 3.51 FIP, a good WHIP of 1.041, and an average of 4.2 walks and 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

He did not pitch at all in 2020 but he made a comeback with the Tampa Bay Rays last season as he had a 4.50 ERA in 12 games. The Cubs took a flier on him and it has paid off as they will be able to trade him before the trade deadline for prospects if they want to.
