New York Yankees have one objective left before trade deadline
The New York Yankees have already marked off most of their trade deadline checklist.
Add an outfielder? Checked off with Andrew Benintendi. Improve the rotation? Enter Frankie Montas. Depth in the bullpen? Lou Trivino and Scott Effross are on their way. Trade Joey Gallo? Well…
New York Yankees have one objective left to accomplish
It is really a matter of time until Gallo is traded elsewhere. He does not have a place on the roster, especially with Benintendi taking over in left and pushing everyone down a rung on the bench. Gallo, who was already virtually unplayable, would see even less time on the diamond for the Yankees.
There are teams that are interested. The Padres and Brewers have been linked to Gallo over the past few days, with the Padres having been a viable landing spot for the outfielder since the Rangers first put him on the trade block last year and during the offseason when the Yankees first attempted to trade him.
Those offseason plans never materialized. The Yankees were looking to recoup a return similar to what they sent to Texas for Gallo despite his horrendous showing in New York. As Gallo never improved, and had actually gotten worse this season, the Yankees are going to be lucky to get anything for him.
At this point, it is a matter of addition by subtraction. In removing Gallo, they can add another piece to their bench that could actually be useful down the stretch. At the same time, a change of scenery could work wonders, allowing Gallo to get back to being the player he had been in Texas.
The New York Yankees have one objective left before the trade deadline. All they need to do now is get rid of Joey Gallo and it is mission accomplished.
