Christian Vazquez may no longer be a part of the Boston Red Sox, but he is still keeping an eye out for their future.
Such was the case on Wednesday. Prospect Brayan Bello was in discomfort during his outing, something that Vazquez noticed as well. He went so far as to flag down manager Alex Cora from the opposing dugout to make certain that he knew what was happening.

Cora was aware of what was happening, waiving Vazquez off as he went to check on Bello before pulling him from the game. At the same time, the Red Sox have to be appreciative that he noticed something was wrong and, despite being on the opposition, knew how important Bello is to their future. He is still watching over his pitchers.
It is understandable that he would still feel that protectiveness over the Red Sox arms. Vazquez was a part of the organization since 2008 when he was selected in the ninth round of the MLB Draft as a high schooler in Puerto Rico. His entire professional career, up until Tuesday, was spent in Boston.
Even then, he was not that far away. Vazquez just crossed the diamond from the Red Sox, facing his former team during his first series in Houston. It was certainly convenient as he did not need to travel far.
It was also convenient for the Red Sox. He was able to be right there, watching over his former charges, even if he was on the other side. Old habits can be hard to break, even if they may give the opponent an advantage.
Christian Vazquez is still watching over the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. That is not going to change just because he is not behind the plate in their jersey.
