2) The Los Angeles Angels
The Angels have not had quality pitching for years and that, by and large, has been their problem. While they still need some pitching, this year, the Angels have actually been worse on offense. One of their weakest areas is at shortstop, where their 53 wRC+ at shortstop is the worst in baseball by 15 percent.
The Angels’ primary shortstop has been Andrew Velazquez. He is only hitting .177/.223/.264 with a wRC+ of 36. He’s been playing nearly every day (99 of the team’s 113 games) because of his excellent defense (14 DRS, 4 OAA) but he’s been very reminiscent of Andrelton Simmons at shortstop. If he could get his wRC+ even at 80 or 90, he’d be a great player but the Angels need an upgrade there.
3) The New York Yankees
The Yankees currently have Isiah Kiner-Falefa at shortstop but, ideally, he would be a utilityman. He was hitting .265/.310/.311 with a wRC+ of 78 before he hit his first home run of the season on Saturday. He has only played shortstop this year but he can also play third base, second base, and catcher. He has seen mixed results defensively by the stats too (6 DRS, -3 OAA) so Correa could be an upgrade for the Yankees there too.
Correa would be an obvious improvement at shortstop and, at bare minimum, he would be a bridge to Anthony Volpe at shortstop. Volpe is still in Double-A so even if Correa signed a long-term deal, the Yankees could move Correa to third base in a few years in favor of Volpe. Or the Yankees could trade Volpe for another need on their team.
