It’s a tale of two New York teams in this week’s MLB power rankings as the Mets get a boost from the return of Jacob deGrom on their way up while the Yankees are simply trying to regain the dominance they displayed before the calendar turned to July.

With the New York Yankees falling from second to fourth, both the Mets and the Houston Astros each took a step up the MLB power rankings ladder. Joining the Yankees as teams stumbling in this week’s list are the San Diego Padres (down two spots from eight to 10) and the Minnesota Twins (dropping from 12th to 15th).

With two home runs on Sunday, Albert Pujols not only tied Willie Mays with 688 career homers (fifth-highest all-time) but also logged his first multi-homer game at Busch Stadium since June 4, 2011. The homers were a bit of nostalgia for Cardinals fans, but a big part of the Cardinals taking Sunday’s game and the series from the Milwaukee Brewers in a set of big NL Central matchups over the weekend.

Since July 7, the Rockies have doubled in 35 consecutive games. That’s tied for the longest streak in franchise history (also in 2001). The streak of doubles is also currently the longest in MLB and the most since Oakland doubled in 36 consecutive games in 2019.
