Jordan Lawlar already has plenty of hype as one of the Arizona Diamondbacks‘ top prospects. He is showing that he may actually be underrated.

Lawlar has already made an impact in prospect circles. He was the sixth overall selection in the 2021 MLB Draft and had been a consensus top 50 prospect heading into this season. Considering he had all of two professional games under his belt before being sidelined with injuries, his ranking was truly impressive.

Jordan Lawlar showing he could be key part of Arizona Diamondbacks future

He hit the ground running this year and has not stopped. The Diamondbacks had started him in A-ball despite his being 19 years old. After 44 games, he moved up the ladder, being promoted to High-A. This time, it took just 30 games before he was promoted again as he is heading to Double-A.

The Amarillo Sod Poodles will actually be Lawlar’s fourth stop this season as he had a six game rehab stint in Rookie Ball. He has produced everywhere he has been thus far, putting together a combined .329/.428/.553 batting line in his 362 plate appearances, hitting 12 homers and 18 doubles while stealing 37 bases.

That production matches Lawlar’s scouting report. He is viewed as a five tool prospect, someone with a compact swing and an advanced approach at the plate. Lawlar should develop more power as he gets stronger, and his excellent speed and instincts make him a weapon on the basepaths.

Lawlar’s ETA has likely changed as well. He had been viewed as someone who was likely to make their debut sometime in 2024, but that seems extremely conservative now. Although he is likely to begin next year in Double-A just to get more time at the level, a major league debut in 2023 cannot be considered out of the question.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have a phenomenal collection of talent. Jordan Lawlar moving up again is just another sign of a bright future.
