The Baltimore Orioles may be two games out of the final Wild Card spot, but they are in a perfect position to head into the postseason.

That has to do with the team they are chasing for that final playoff berth. The Toronto Blue Jays may have been one of the favorites for a spot in the postseason at the beginning of the year, but they have been a disappointment. With a 70-59 record, the Blue Jays are third in the division and are trying desperately to stay ahead of the Orioles.

Baltimore Orioles’ season could come down to ten games

It could all come down to ten games. Due to the ridiculousness of the unbalanced schedule, the Orioles and Blue Jays still have ten games left against one another. It is a chance for the Orioles to push their way into the postseason, or for the Blue Jays to solidify their spot.

History, at least this season, favors the Orioles. They are 6-3 against the Blue Jays thus far in 2022, helping them keep their postseason hopes alive. Conversely, the Blue Jays struggles against the Orioles have not only kept them from the first Wild Card spot and an advantage in the postseason, but from catching up to the free falling Yankees for the division lead.

It would be quite an accomplishment for the Orioles. They are already surpassed their projected win total for the season; their 68 wins thus far are the most that they have had since 2017. To be this close to the postseason after selling at the trade deadline is truly impressive.

At this point, there is no reason to doubt the Orioles going forward. They have already overcome tremendous odds to be in this position. If they continue to dominate the Blue Jays as they did earlier in the year, they could find themselves in that final Wild Card spot at the end of the season.

The Baltimore Orioles may not be in the postseason, but they control their own destiny. They just need to finish strong against the Blue Jays.
