Let’s get a spoiler alert out of the way for this week’s MLB power rankings: The New York Yankees have fallen to the lowest point in these rankings that they have all season, coming in this week at number eight. Three other American League teams are above them this week as New York has stumbled to a 16-26 record in the second half of the season and watched its lead in the AL East shrink to five games over the Tampa Bay Rays.

In our latest MLB power rankings, the top five remains the same and the New York Yankees have lost more ground

The New York Yankees have lost seven games in the AL East standings since July 15, and Yankees fans have been losing their collective minds about the “collapse” of the team, despite them still being in control of their own destiny. While the Houston Astros have passed the Yankees for the best record in the AL, the Bronx Bombers have been worried enough about their own health and lack of offense to make home-field advantage in the postseason almost secondary. Now, it’s about fending off the Rays and Jays in the East and making sure the Yankees have a first-round bye in the postseason. If that can be done, that’s a big step in the right direction as meaningful October baseball gets underway.

Here’s a guarantee: It’s going to be a stressful September for Yankees fans. Judging from some of the social media comments, anything less than a World Series win will make this a disappointing season in the Bronx, especially after displaying dominance during the first three months of the season.

This time of year annually tests the mettle of teams that will rise to the top or crumble under the pressure. While no one can see what’s to come in October and November, it’s not going to be an easy climb to the summit for any team. Yankees fans, take a deep breath. Either the best or worst is to come over the next eight weeks, and no amount of doom and gloom is going to impact New York’s play on the field or change what the Yankees should have done at the trade deadline.

There are plenty of other fans who would gladly trade place with you right now, including those who cheer on the Red Sox (even though they’ll never admit it).

Below you can find our latest MLB power rankings. This week, however, we change it up just a bit, allowing three tweets to tell the story of three teams in the rankings, including one in each third.
