Minnesota Twins curing what ails New York Yankees
The New York Yankees needed a spark. Fortunately, the Minnesota Twins were on the schedule.
The Twins came into Yankee Stadium for their only road series against the Yankees. And, as has often been the case, the Yankees have dominated thus far, winning the first three games by a combined score of 17-7.
New York Yankees keep dominating Minnesota Twins
That has typically been the case. The Yankees already lead the season series 5-1 pending the outcome of Thursday’s contest. They have also defeated the Twins in their last 13 postseason meetings, part of the Twins’ ridiculous 18 game winless streak in the playoffs. In fact, the Yankees are 98-37 against the Twins since the start of the 2002 season; the Twins have a .504 winning percentage against every other team in that same time frame.
The Twins were a welcome sight for individual players as well. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had just one homer in his first 119 games of the season entering this series; he has two in three games. Aaron Judge has torched everyone, but he also belted a pair of homers. Gerrit Cole struck out 14 batters in his outing.
It is safe to say that the Yankees needed to see the Twins on the schedule. They had been in a horrendous slump since the beginning of July, seeing their stranglehold on the division fade away. Judge could only carry the team by himself for so long – the rest of the roster needed to step up.
As it turned out, the prescription to their ills was coming up. The Twins, as has so frequently been the case over the past two decades, were waiting to help the Yankees get back on track. Some things just never change.
In theory, Jim Pohlad owns the Minnesota Twins. In reality, the New York Yankees continued dominance shows that they own the Twins after all.
