The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves have been chasing each other at the top of the National League East standings, as well as near the top of our MLB power rankings in recent weeks. This week, however, the Mets put a little space between them and their division rivals near the top of our rankings.

In our latest MLB power rankings, the Atlanta Braves slip to fourth as the Houston Astros rise to third behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets

As we discussed recently in this article, it’s not that the Mets are playing bad baseball and that’s why they have found themselves in second place in the division some this past week. The Braves have just been playing lights out baseball, including on Sunday when they rallied from a five-run deficit in Seattle in the top of the ninth and looked to be in line to take two of three games in the Pacific Northwest. However, Kenley Jansen surrendered a pair of solo homers in the bottom of the ninth as Seattle walked off with an 8-7 win, dropping the Braves 1.5 games behind the Mets in the standings.

The win was another moment to remember in what has been an incredible season in Seattle. Can the Mariners keep their Wild Card hopes alive? We still have them at number 6 in this week’s MLB power rankings (the second-highest-ranked AL team).

Below you can find our latest MLB power rankings. This week, as we did last week, we searched for three tweets to further highlight some of the recent happenings with three teams in the rankings, including one in each third.
