Just five at-bats after being returned to the active roster following a long absence with a broken foot, a streak of bad luck with injuries for Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves continued on Saturday night.
Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves endures another injury
Activated before Friday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Albies had seemingly shaken off the rust that came with a broken foot suffered in a game on June 13 against the Washington Nationals, going 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI in a 7-2 Friday win for the Atlanta Braves. However, on Saturday, Albies got in just one at-bat before being sidelined yet again by an injury.
Albies was hurt sliding into second base, and was replaced in the lineup by rookie Vaughn Grissom, someone who has been filling in for Albies at second base in recent weeks as the 25-year-old switch hitter rehabbed in preparation to rejoin the Braves.
According to reports, Albies will miss the regular season but could return for the postseason at some point.
The injury is a tough blow for the Braves, who were looking forward to adding Albies to the lineup as the team battled with the New York Mets for the lead in the National League East.
The 21-year-old Grissom, part of Atlanta’s “Rookie Row” inside the clubhouse that also includes outfielder Michael Harris II and pitcher Spencer Strider, the two leading candidates for NL Rookie of the Year, will likely once again see the lion’s share of work at second base. Grissom entered Saturday’s action slashing .304/.355/.482 in his first 31 MLB games.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
