It did not take long for the Detroit Tigers to find a new president of baseball operations.

Al Avila had been let go back on August 10, ending his 22 year run with the franchise. This left the Tigers in need of a new face for the front office as Avila had ruled the roost for the previous seven years. It would not have been a surprise if this search lasted into the offseason as the Tigers could not afford to make a mistake.

Detroit Tigers hope new brain trust finds success

Instead, the Tigers have already found their man. According to Jeff Passan, they are set to hire Giants’ general manager Scott Harris as their new president of baseball operations.

Harris has swiftly moved through the ranks as he has been viewed as one of baseball’s rising stars. He had briefly spent time with the Nationals and Reds before joining the Cubs’ front office in 2012, staying through the 2019 season. Harris left the Cubs to take over as the Giants’ general manager, a position he held until being hired by the Tigers.

In theory, this gives the Tigers a solid brain trust. Harris would join assistant general managers Sam Menzin, Jay Sartori, and David Chadd, along with manager A.J. Hinch, to give the Tigers an impressive collection of baseball minds. With their young pitchers and the hope that their prospects on the offensive side can turn the corner next year, the future could be bright.

But this depends on how Harris views the current collection of people in the front office. He could easily decide that wholesale changes are made, especially with a manager that he inherited. Hinch may be well regarded in the game, but even if he survives the offseason, he will need to start producing wins in 2023.

Next. A disappointing 25-25 season. dark

The Detroit Tigers have a new leader in their front office. Giants general manager Scott Harris is taking over as the president of baseball operations.
