New York Yankees mount crazy comeback against Pittsburgh Pirates
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees once again outdid himself on Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Just when you think Aaron Judge has done it all, he just continues to write new parts of his story this season with the New York Yankees
Judge is enjoying an historic season, and it’s a season that we might never see again. On Tuesday, he hit his 60th home run with the New York Yankees down four runs in the ninth to the Pittsburgh Pirates. With this bomb, he has now tied Yankees great Babe Ruth, arguably the best Yankee of all time, and I believe Judge will have his number retired if he re-signs with the Yanks this offseason.
Back to this season and Tuesday night, Judge hit a no-doubter in the left field bleachers and those that stayed were ultimately rewarded. Judge got the Bronx Bombers going and they didn’t look back. Anthony Rizzo hit a double, Gleyber Torres walked, and Josh Donaldson hit a single as Pirates pitcher Wil Crowe imploded, allowing four straight runners without getting an out.
Giancarlo Stanton, who had been struggling mightily, then stepped up and hit a missile for a walk-off Grand Slam.
That ninth inning was the best of the season for the Yanks. They were completely dead and the Pirates couldn’t even get an out without giving up five runs. The best part about it was that Judge downplayed number 60, and was more excited for Stanton’s walk-off as you can see in the video above. Without Judge though, none of it happens, and that’s just part of the reason why he’s the MVP. He leads the American League in just about every offensive category and MLB in most of them.
Judge is setting himself up to win the American League Triple Crown with his .316 average. He leads in RBI with 128 by 13 and he leads in home runs by 23. If he wins the Triple Crown, he would have the most home runs of any winner in history (Mickey Mantle previously had the highest with 52). Judge’s OPS of 1.122 is nearly 100 points in front of anyone else and his slugging is over 75 points higher than the runner up. His WAR is close to 11.
One last note on Judge is that he has tied a record with 11 multi-homer games this season with the Hank Greenberg of the Detroit Tigers and Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs. Could he make two pieces of history together on Wednesday night by passing the Yankee record of 61 home runs set by Roger Maris and having his 12th multi-home run game? At this point, I wouldn’t bet against him.
