Miami Marlins All Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. to suit up for Great Britain
The British National Team has advanced to the World Baseball Classic for the first time. Their chances have improved with the addition of Miami Marlins’ second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.
It had been expected that Chisholm would be added to the roster if he was interested. He confirmed his place for the tournament on Wednesday as the native of the Bahamas will suit up for Great Britain.

Chisholm was in the midst of a breakout 2022 campaign when injuries struck. He had posted a 138 OPS+ with 14 homers and ten doubles in his 241 plate appearances while stealing 12 bases. His 8.7% walk rate and 27.4% strikeout rates were both the best marks of his career, showing that he has made strides in his approach at the plate to fuel his breakthrough.
The WBC will also be a perfect opportunity for Chisholm to show that he is fully healthy once again. He not only had a stress fracture in his back but had been playing through a torn meniscus as well. His breakout showing is even more impressive when one considers the injuries he has played through.
It is possible that the WBC can be where Chisholm breaks out in another way as well. He does not receive as much attention as other exciting young stars in the game, in part because the Marlins tend to be forgotten about by casual fans.
That may change with a chance to be in the spotlight. While the British National Team is not expected to go deep into the tournament, having one or two players catch fire can make a difference. If that happens with Chisholm, he could be catapulted into stardom.
