Drew Carey was right. Cleveland does indeed rock, especially right now with the Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Browns succeeding in their respective leagues and playing like it’s 1995 all over again.

The Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Browns are doing something that has not been done in the city since 1995

Flash back with us to 1995, a year when “Braveheart” won Best Picture, Amazon made its first-ever book sale, and we were using computers running on Windows 95. It was also a season when Cleveland’s baseball team (then known as the Indians) were on top of the American League, making it all the way to the World Series before falling in six games to the Atlanta Braves.

As the 1995 Indians were gearing up for the postseason, the Browns were making some noise of their own, starting the season 3-1 to land on top of the AFC Central. It was a fast start for a team that would eventually end up 5-11 under head coach Bill Belichick.

So a strong season on the baseball side and a fast start on the football side? Yes, that was 1995 … but it’s also 2022 as well. In fact, it’s déjà vu all over again in the 216.

With the Cleveland Guardians a virtual lock to win the American League Central and finish as the third seed, Cleveland will be hosting one of the AL Wild Card matchups beginning on October 7. In the best-of-three Wild Card round, if the Guardians need to play all three games, that would set up an interesting Sunday in Cleveland, with the Guardians playing a decisive Wild Card game and the Browns set to host the Los Angeles Chargers at 1 p.m. (local time)

The city of Cleveland is riding high as one team’s regular season winds down and another’s kicks into full gear. It feels like 1995 all over again along the shores of Lake Erie.
