It may not take long for former New York Yankees outfielder Miguel Andujar to find a new home.

According to Jack Curry of YES Network, that home could be with the Kansas City Royals. The Royals are reportedly interested in the former Yankees outfielder in the hopes that a change of scenery could do wonders.

Kansas City Royals could be answer for Miguel Andujar

There was a time when Andujar appeared to be a building block for the Yankees. He had a stellar rookie season in 2018, posting a .297/.328/.527 batting line with 27 homers and 47 doubles in his 606 plate appearances as he finished second in the AL Rookie of the Year vote. While there were concerns about his defense since he cost the Yankees 21 runs at third, his bat was good enough to stay in the lineup.

Then it all fell apart. Andujar battled injuries in 2019, leading to his being passed over on the depth chart by Gio Urshela. The Yankees attempted to put him in left but he never received another extended chance at the major league level, with just 376 plate appearances over the last four seasons.

The Royals outfield is seemingly set. MJ Melendez has taken over in left, with Drew Waters in right. Andujar would not be an option in center where Michael Taylor is theoretically in place through 2023. Even if Taylor is traded, either Waters or Nick Loftin would be the most logical candidates to take over, leaving Andujar in a bench role.

However, the Royals do have an opening at third. Nicky Lopez may be atop the depth chart at the position but he is best suited for a utility role. Andujar may not be anything close to a useful defensive presence, but he does have more upside with the bat. At the very least, he is a lottery ticket for a team in desperate need of viable options at the hot corner.
