New York Yankees could get Matt Carpenter back sooner than expected
The New York Yankees appeared to have gotten a bad break when Matt Carpenter fouled a ball off of his foot on August 8. Due to the timing of the injury, it was possible that the resurgent veteran was lost for the rest of the year and postseason.
But that may not be the case. According to Bryan Hoch from MLB.com, Carpenter could make his return in time for the Yankees’ final series of the year against the Rangers.
Matt Carpenter could be what New York Yankees need
There is no question that Carpenter was a major loss in their lineup. He had unexpectedly become a key part of the roster, posting a stellar .305/.412/.727 batting line with 15 homers and nine doubles in his 154 plate appearances before landing on the Injured List.
It is not a surprise that the Yankees have scuffled since Carpenter was injured. They have posted a 23-20 record since as they head into Tuesday’s slate of action, using their hot start to coast into a playoff berth. Their offense has essentially been Aaron Judge with occasional cameos from Anthony Rizzo since his injury.
Getting Carpenter back before the postseason would also be a major boost in terms of getting him back on track. He would have a few games under his belt before the Yankees have a break due to the first round bye, which would have pushed him back even further. Batting practice can only go so far in terms of getting a player back on track.
The Yankees lineup is also starting to get healthy at the right time. Giancarlo Stanton and Harrison Bader have returned in recent days, giving the Yankees more punch to their lineup. Carpenter can do the same if he is able to return in time.
The New York Yankees may be getting Matt Carpenter back soon. He could be that final boost they need as they head into the postseason.
