Robinson Cano may not be on a major league roster, but the former Atlanta Braves second baseman could get a World Series ring anyway.
In fact, Cano has three different paths to a ring, all of which are in the National League. As pointed out by Hector Gomez on Twitter, Cano can win a World Series ring if either the Braves, Mets, or Padres come away with a championship.
Atlanta Braves may be Robinson Cano’s best chance at World Series ring
No matter what happens in the Wild Card round, Cano will still have a 25% chance once the division series begins. The Padres and Mets are facing one another, ensuring that one of those teams will advance. Those odds could improve based on the results of the NLDS should the Braves and whichever team comes out of the Padres/Mets matchup upset the Dodgers.
Coming away with a ring would be one highlight for what had been a difficult season for Cano. He struggled in all three of his stops this year, posting a miserable .150/.183/.190 batting line with one homer and one double in his 104 plate appearances. Cano drew just four walks while striking out 25 times as he just did not have anything left in the tank.
That should not have been much of a surprise. Cano had missed the entire 2021 season due to a PED suspension, and at 39 years old, was already staring down the end of his career. The fact that he was able to get two more chances after being let go from the Mets was surprising in its own right.
In the end, this could all work out in Cano’s favor. He has a chance to pick up his second ring, a final one to cap off a solid career that has been tainted by his PED usage. Even if this is the end of his career, Cano can still, very quietly, go out on top. Considering that the Braves have been on fire over the past few months, that second ring may well happen.
Robinson Cano has a 25% chance of earning a World Series ring this year. That brief stop with the Atlanta Braves could be his best bet.
