The Minnesota Twins seemingly had a chance to take the AL Central.

Back on September 4, both the Twins and Guardians held a 68-64 record. While the Guardians went on a run to seize control of the division, the Twins faded, eventually falling below .500 and into third place in the Central. Considering the litany of injuries that they had this year, their eventual fall from the lead was not a surprise.

Minnesota Twins trying to find someone that can keep the team healthy

This season’s spate of injuries has led to a chance. The Twins are looking for yet another head trainer, their fourth since 2016. These changes are also coupled with a revolving door in their strength and conditioning departments as well.

Maybe a change is warranted. The Twins ended the season with 19 players on the Injured List, including five starting pitchers and five relievers. Even players that they brought in at the trade deadline, such as Tyler Mahle, failed to survive their trek to Minnesota.

But there is also something to be said for the players being injury prone as well. No one is ever going to regard Byron Buxton as a paragon of health, even if he did hold out as long as possible with his knee surgery. Royce Lewis and Alex Kirilloff are well on their way to earning the same label. There is something wrong somewhere in how players are evaluated health-wise and possibly in their training methods.

Ultimately, it is easier to change the training staff than it is to overhaul the roster. This is something that the Twins will be doing yet again as they try to find someone with the magic touch to keep the roster healthy. If that can happen, the Twins could find themselves right back in the conversation for the division. But that is a big if at this point.
