Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts let his hometown pride for Houston show back in 2020, and the video and photos were brought up again on Wednesday, agitating Phillies fans who didn’t bother to check the timestamp of the images.

A native of Houston, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts wore an Astros hat and shirt to a press conference in 2020, but Phillies fans are upset about it today.

With the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros set to square off on Friday in Game 1 of the World Series, a video of Hurts deciding to “show some love” to his hometown of Houston has resurfaced on social media, with him wearing an Astros hat and jacket to an Eagles press conference. However, while riling fans on social media up today, the original video was from December 9, 2020, long before the Astros and Phillies were set to meet at Minute Maid Park in the Fall Classic.

In the older clip, he explained how he has given nods to Houston ever since he arrived in Philadelphia. The media conference (held via Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic) was before Hurts was going to start his first game as the Eagles quarterback, so he wanted to talk about his background and upbringing, which included his Houston roots.

This isn’t the only time that Hurts has talked about being an Astros supporter. Growing up in Houston, Hurts told NBC Sports Philadelphia earlier this year that he grew up watching Craig Biggio and that he wished he had kept playing baseball longer than he did.

While Houston may be on his heart, Hurts also realizes where he plays and the importance of showing his support for the cross-town Phillies as well, so he made sure (even back in 2020) to explain that he hadn’t forgotten about his Philadelphia sports brothers.

Phillies fans who didn’t bother to check the origin of the photo and video were not pleased about Hurts being shown in Astros gear and, of course, reacted rationally on Twitter.

While there are plenty of images of Hurts wearing Phillies gear, Philadelphia fans are melting down in the City of Brotherly Love over a nearly two-year-old video clip and photo.
