At this point, the Chicago White Sox need to make up their minds.

Their search for a new manager has been a circus. Joe Espada was reportedly the choice, only to have the White Sox see the White Sox continue to interview candidates. Then it was reported that Espada, Kevin Long, and Ozzie Guillen were the finalists for the position. But wait – suddenly none of them were expected to be named manager!

Chicago White Sox need to make up their minds

Now we have yet another report about the White Sox next manager. According to Buster Olney, the White Sox are expected to name Royals’ bench coach Pedro Grifol as their new manager with an announcement coming later in the week.

This had been said before. Change the name, and the rumor could be the same for most of the other candidates. It feels as though several candidates have been given the job, only to find out hours later that they will not be the next manager after all. Maybe Jerry Reinsdorf is trying to figure out how to dig up ol’ Charlie Comiskey and slap a uniform on him to manage the team.

Maybe Grifol will actually be the White Sox next manager. Or he could be the latest name that Reinsdorf drooled on while taking a nap at his desk, leading the front office to think that is the choice. We’ll have to check back later on once he wakes up.

If it is Grifol, that will be an interesting development. He had been passed over by the Royals during their own managerial search as they opted for Matt Quatraro. The idea that someone from a losing organization that had been bypassed by that team is the answer is certainly interesting. Perhaps that will be the case, but this would not be a hiring that would inspire a lot of confidence.

Pedro Grifol is now reportedly going to be named as the Chicago White Sox next manager. Check back tomorrow to see if that is still the case.
