Atlanta Braves continue great World Series tradition with Houston Astros
There are some fantastic traditions in baseball, and one of the more recent ones involving the World Series was just shared between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros.
Atlanta Braves continue World Series tradition by buying pizza for Houston Astros front office
Continuing a tradition started by the Boston Red Sox in 2014, the team that won the World Series in the previous year will send pizza for the entire front office of the franchise that earned the most recent World Series title. This November, it was the Atlanta Braves, who defeated the Houston Astros in last year’s World Series, sending pizza to Houston as a tip of the cap to the success of the Astros in the Fall Classic.
It’s the second time the Astros front office has received pizza from a National League team after winning the World Series, with the Chicago Cubs providing the pies to celebrate Houston’s 2017 title. But Chicago didn’t send deep dish pizza to Houston as part of the celebration. Part of the tradition also includes the previous winners picking a pizza place in the current champion’s home city, giving a local flavor to the tradition and also a boost to the local economy.
This year, the Braves chose Frank’s Pizza as the official post-World Series pizza delivery. Claiming on their web site, “We pride ourselves in offering hand-tossed pizzas made with the freshest ingredients including daily, made-from-scratch dough and sauce,” there’s little doubt that the pizza was ingested with a load of pride in the team’s recent accomplishment.
Throughout the tradition, there have been some interesting exchanges as well, including in 2021 when the Los Angeles Dodgers sent pizza to the Braves celebrate their title. Atlanta knocked Los Angeles out of the playoffs in the NLCS.
