It is not a secret that the New York Mets want to keep Brandon Nimmo around for 2023 and beyond.
According to reports, the Mets consider Nimmo one of their top priorities this offseason. As they already locked up their other top priority, Edwin Diaz, to a long term deal, it makes sense for the Mets to shift their focus to their center fielder. And, for his part, Nimmo has said that he wants to remain with the Mets.
Giants, Rockies amongst suitors for New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo
But those words do not mean anything until the contract is signed. Other teams can come in with better offers, potentially prying Nimmo away from the Mets. According to Ari Alexander of KRPC 2 Houston, the Giants and Rockies are two teams that will be quite active in Nimmo’s market.
For the Rockies, Nimmo would be a step toward remaking their outfield. They had begun that process last offseason when they had brought Kris Bryant in to fortify the lineup. Nimmo would be another upgrade to the outfield mix, giving the Rockies a viable center fielder who can produce at an above average rate while pushing Yonathan Daza back to the fourth outfielder role he is best suited for.
The Giants, meanwhile, are expected to be major players in free agency. They are also looking to remake their outfield as they are viewed as one of the favorites for Aaron Judge in free agency. Nimmo would be another step to revamping the lineup and fixing an outfield mix that had disappointed last season.
Nimmo is going to have plenty of suitors. Plenty of teams are looking for a center fielder while there are not many options available. The Mets, Giants, and Rockies will not be the only teams picking up the phone to attempt to bring him in. However, it is fair to wonder if they will be the favorites for his services going forward.
New York Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo is going to be a highly sought after player. The Rockies and Giants are already making those calls.
