New York Mets reached out to Carlos Beltran for return
Carlos Beltran had a chance to be more than a footnote in New York Mets history.
He was the Mets’ manager for a hot minute, holding the position from November 1, 2019 through January 16, 2020, leaving the organization by mutual accord after his name was brought up as part of the AstroGate scandal. His managerial aspirations appeared to be over as his part in the sign stealing conspiracy was brought to light.
New York Mets still want Carlos Beltran around
But the Mets have not forgotten about Beltran. They had discussed the idea of bringing him back to the organization and were reportedly considering making him an offer to return to the coaching staff. However, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Beltran is not interested in that type of role with the team.
One can understand why that would be the case. Beltran may still have some issues over how and why he was let go, especially since his being forced out of that role was the only punishment that any players involved received for their actions.
But the door is still seemingly open for a return to the Mets. Puma noted that Beltran said he was not interested in “that type of role,” which could mean that he would be willing to return in another facet. Perhaps Beltran could come back as a part of the front office or as a roving minor league instructor as his knowledge of the game is still valued to this day.
It would also be a good way to close the door on what had been an unfortunate ending to his time with the organization. Beltran had been a key part of the Mets lineup from 2005 through 2011, making four All Star Games while winning three Gold Glove awards and two Silver Sluggers in that time. Hopefully, the two sides can find a way to bring him back to the organization and bring his career full circle.
Carlos Beltran is not interested in returning to the New York Mets as part of the coaching staff. Maybe there is another way he can return to the organization.
