Former New York Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera has learned his fate.

Cabrera had infamously begun a benches clearing brawl back on November 19 when he attempted to channel his inner Rougned Odor. Carlos Castro had belted his third homer of the game against Caribes de Anzoategui, leading to a bat flip while he said something to the Anzoategui bench. Cabrera met Castro just after he rounded first with a clothesline, causing the chaotic scene to erupt on the diamond.

Considering the scene he caused, one would have expected that Cabrera would be facing a long punishment, or even banishment, from the league. Instead, he received a 35 game suspension, a surprisingly short amount considering his actions. He did not even receive the longest suspension due to the brawl; former Phillies reliever Edubary Ramos received a 40 game suspension for firing a baseball into the melee that struck someone in the head.

Cabrera’s reaction to the bat flip was interesting considering his history. His time with the Mets is best remembered for a bat flip of his own to celebrate a walk-off victory against the Phillies. In a small world moment, Ramos was the pitcher to allow that home run.

However, his temper had been known during his major league career. He struggled to keep those anger issues under control in the majors and they clearly got the best of him during that game. And now, those temper issues are not just going to sideline Cabrera for the next 35 games, but they may be the final nail in his major league coffin.
