New York Mets reportedly in talks with Carlos Rodon
The New York Mets are not slowing down in their quest to add another top of the rotation arm to their pitching staff.
Justin Verlander has already had talks with the Mets. Jameson Taillon may not be a top of the rotation arm, but the Mets are interested in him as well. There is the possibility that Jacob deGrom will return. The Mets are certainly doing their best to add another ace to pair with Max Scherzer.
New York Mets keep discussing aces
The Mets are not stopping there. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, they are also having a Zoom meeting on Tuesday with Carlos Rodon.
Rodon has proven that he can fit what the Mets would be looking for. He has gone from a back of the rotation type of arm with shoulder questions to establishing himself as an ace in just two seasons.
His ascension continued in 2022. Scooped up by the Giants when his market was slower than expected, Rodon rewarded their faith with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.028 WHiP over his 178 innings, striking out 237 batters with 52 walks. Opponents mustered a meager .202/.263/.308 batting line in their 710 plate appearances with just 12 homers. And, at 30 years old next season, Rodon could get even better as he continues into his prime.
That is exactly what the Mets need. While they are clearly built to win now, their acquisitions last season tended to be on the older side. Adding a player who is still in their prime and can be an asset atop the rotation could make a major difference as the Mets look to build a potential juggernaut.
The New York Mets are determined to add another top of the rotation starter. Their quest has now reportedly turned to Carlos Rodon.
