New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has already dished out some massive contracts this offseason to boost his team’s chances of winning the World Series in 2023. Now could more help be coming at the plate for the already talent-rich Mets?

Rumors: New York Mets may not be done this offseason

After already boosting the rotation with Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, and Jose Quintana, it appears the New York Mets may now be looking to add more power at the plate in addition to the recently resigned Brandon Nimmo.

According to reporters from The Athletic (subscription required), “the owner still believes the Mets need more offense,” and that means that Cohen could well be spending again to land players such as J.D. Martinez and Michael Conforto. Both are represented by the group that is headlined by Scott Boras, so it makes sense that the duo would be tied together as names in the article. Could this be a convenient mention by Boras as a way to get his clients some attention from not only the Mets, but other clubs as well?

Conforto, of course, is very familiar to the Mets, having spent the entirety of his seven-year career with the franchise. The 29-year-old outfielder did not play in 2022 while battling shoulder issues and eventually undergoing surgery to alleviate the issues.

Martinez, who slashed .274/.341.448 in 533 at-bats with the Boston Red Sox last season, was predicted by MLBTradeRumors.com to land a two-year, $30 million deal this offseason while Conforto was projected to land a one-year, $15 million contract as he proved to MLB teams that he could still provide offense and was fully healthy. Both contracts would be ones that would be small compared to the massive amounts of capital already spent by Cohen this offseason.

Next. Jeff McNeil should be the Mets DH in 2023. dark

Will the Mets spend more this offseason, and will it be on a pair of players who could both possibly help at the designated hitter position as well as the outfield? We will have to see just how deep Cohen’s pockets are when it comes to building depth in Queens.
