As 2023 draws ever closer, there are MLB rumors surrounding the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, and Miami Marlins, as well as the next destination for Eric Hosmer.

MLB rumors: San Diego Padres listening on Ha-Seong Kim, Trent Grisham

According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic (subscription required), San Diego could be open to moving Kim or Grisham, thanks in part to the influx of talent (including Xander Bogaerts) that has landed with the Padres this offseason. Lin writes that the Padres “have expressed interest” in Miami starting pitcher Pablo Lopez (and possibly other Marlins pitchers), and could potentially look to swing one of those two players as part of the deal for the 26-year-old Lopez, since Miami is looking to add hitting but has plenty of arms.

With the signing of Jean Segura in Miami, that could put Grisham more in play through a potential trade than Kim.

MLB rumors: Miami Marlins looking at trades

As discussed here, Miami is certainly looking to upgrade its lineup heading into spring training. MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that the Marlins toyed with a trade idea with the Colorado Rockies that would send Gold Glove infielder Brendan Rodgers to south Florida and Edward Cabrera to Denver. However, Segura’s arrival may put a damper on any future thought of that as well.

MLB rumors: Boston Red Sox “listening on starters”

In the on-again, off-again discussion about whether Chris Sale might be available in a trade, Heyman writes that, “The Red Sox told teams early they had no intention to trade Sale, but they’re open to listening on starters now.”

With the starting pitcher free agent market drying up, teams may have to resort to trades if they want to significantly upgrade their rotation with Lopez, Sale, or others.

MLB rumors: Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles could be suitors for Eric Hosmer

Heyman also adds that the Cubs and Orioles are “on the radar” in the chase for Hosmer, who was designated for assignment earlier in the month by the Red Sox. The veteran has 12 MLB seasons under his belt and is looking to rebound from a poor stint in Boston after being traded there by San Diego last season. In just 14 games after his time in Boston was limited by back inflammation, Hosmer slashed just .244/.320/.311.

He will be looking to rebound in 2023, and could provide depth for a team at first base (where he has earned four Gold Gloves) and designated hitter.
