Chicago Cubs

In some ways, the Chicago Cubs are in a similar spot as the Miami Marlins.

The Cubs are also looking to return to the postseason, although they have said that they are “reloading” instead of rebuilding. That reloading process has taken over two years at this point, and while the Cubs are better, there are still holes on their roster.

However, the Cubs are in a better spot than the Marlins. Their lineup is fairly well set, although there are some questions at first base. Patrick Wisdom is currently listed as the Cubs primary first baseman and designated hitter; additionally, he was their primary third baseman last year.

In theory, prospect Matt Mervis will be ready to take over at first. However, he has just 485 plate appearances above A-ball, the vast majority of which came last year. Adding a player such as Trey Mancini would not only help the Cubs in the event that Mervis is not ready while adding a solid depth piece to their roster. He could also allow Ian Happ to spend more time in center, something that could become necessary if Cody Bellinger continues his lack of production.

The Chicago Cubs need depth pieces and to find an option at first base. Trey Mancini would help in both areas.
