The New York Yankees are continuing to stockpile talent…in their front office.

On Tuesday, the Yankees announced that Brian Sabean is back with the organization and will serve as an executive advisor to Brian Cashman. On Thursday, Jack Curry of YES Network announced that Omar Minaya is also joining the Yankees front office as an advisor to the baseball ops department.

New York Yankees adding more experience, savvy to front office

It is fair to say that changes needed to come to the Yankees. Their approach had gotten stale over the years, as they appeared content with simply making the postseason. There were questions about whether or not it was time for Cashman to move out of the general manager role and whether or not the Steinbrenner Brothers had the willingness to make those final moves needed to win a title.

Making these additions changes that dynamic. Yes, Cashman is still in charge. But now there are other voices in the mix as well, with Sabean having won a trio of championships since the Yankees last title. Minaya may not have had that same success, but he is a highly respected voice and known for his baseball intellect.

At the same time, these hirings will make a difference in the dynamic of the front office. They are not going to rubber stamp any of his thoughts. Minaya and Sabean were not brought in to be yes men for Cashman. They are going to challenge him and will likely provide a dissenting voice that may have been missing.

It is also clear that Cashman realized such a voice was needed. Minaya and Sabean likely would not have been hired without his approval considering his tenure with the organization. Changes are coming in New York, and they cannot be happening soon enough.
