Stop us if you heard this one before.

Carlos Correa is about to sign a long term deal for over $300 million. Then there are questions about his medicals, putting that deal on hold. Another team swoops in and comes to an agreement with Correa, at least in theory. The New York Mets could find themselves on both sides of that saga.

New York Mets, Carlos Correa saga takes another turn

On Thursday afternoon, Jon Heyman from the New York Post indicated that the two sides were still negotiating over language and possible risk, but that those talks were progressing. Then, not even two hours later, Heyman reported that Boras is now in contact with at least one other team about Correa as negotiations with the Mets continue.

Correa’s offseason is getting to be a bit ridiculous. He has been close to signing with the Giants and Mets, only to see those contracts fall through. He has been in limbo almost as often as the likes of Hoy Park and Lewan Diaz, who have been through DFA hell for the past few months.

This may also explain why Correa’s market never really developed last offseason. His three year, $105 million contract with the Twins, with a pair of opt-outs, was a surprise as he was considered one of the best players in free agency. Maybe teams were concerned enough with his medicals where they simply preferred not to pursue him at all last year.

At some point, Correa is going to sign. He is still going to receive a significant contract and be one of the higher paid players in the game. He just may not get the type of deal he was about to sign before the holidays with the Giants. And, at this point, who knows where he ends up signing?
