Another day, another rumor about Carlos Correa and the New York Mets.
Once again, Jon Heyman of the New York Post has provided an update on the Correa-Mets standoff. He states that the Mets are still considered Correa’s first option.
New York Mets, Carlos Correa just need to get this over with
Yes, other teams have checked in on Correa’s situation. The Twins have been the most notable of those teams as they are hoping to slide in the back door and bring their shortstop back for more than just one season. However, Heyman called those offers “unsolicited” as he noted Correa’s preference to get a deal done in New York.
At this point in time, it almost does not matter where Correa signs. Everyone just wants this saga to end as he has supposedly been off the market since the middle of December. He keeps making news by not making news, but as one of the top players in the game and someone allegedly heading to a major market in New York, he is going to generate headlines.
It is not just the fans that are getting frustrated with this saga dragging out. Mets’ owner Steve Cohen has said that there will be a resolution soon one way or another. Correa’s agent, Scott Boras, certainly is not doing himself any favors with the way these talks have dragged on. Add in the fact that Correa marks the third consecutive year that there have been questions about his willingness to be forthcoming on injuries (Michael Conforto and Kumar Rocker) and his star may be fading just a bit.
Chances are, Correa will end up with the Mets. They will finally come to a deal that both sides can agree upon, with the language needed to cover the organization in case of injury concerns. But until that happens, there will be more headlines detailing absolutely nothing when it comes to Correa and the Mets.
The New York Mets are still the expected landing spot for Carlos Correa. It is just a matter of the two sides getting a deal over with.
