Website trolls former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer on his birthday
The Baseball Reference website has a fun feature when it comes to a player’s birthday. There is a built in logic that recognizes that fact, wishing the player a happy birthday on their page. At least, that is the case with the vast majority of players on the site; in fact, with every player aside from former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer.
As the High Heat Stats Twitter account pointed out, Bauer is not being wished a happy birthday on Tuesday despite turning 32 years old. The account also showed an image of Rob Bell’s player page highlighting the difference as the former Rays pitcher turned 46 years old on the same day.
Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer still a pariah in some areas
Bauer is going to be a lightning rod for years to come. His actions, despite his not being held criminally liable for anything that occurred, were still repugnant and led to his being suspended for 194 games, a major league record for violating the league’s domestic abuse policy. The Dodgers themselves moved on once he was officially reinstated as he was officially released on January 12.
He will continue to have his apologists. Bauer’s fanboys will make excuses for anything he does and claim that he is being persecuted. But teams have the right to determine who they want representing them and their organization. The Dodgers decided that his talent was not worth the aggravation.
And it appears that Baseball Reference has made a similar determination. In their quiet, understated way, they have stated their opinion about Bauer and his actions. Maybe, in the grand scheme of things, not wishing him a happy birthday will not matter, but it is a statement nonetheless.
The Baseball Reference website has taken a subtle shot at former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer. He is not being wished a happy birthday.
