Philadelphia Phillies: The top 5 series at Citizens Bank Park in 2023
Philly is waiting to erupt for that first crack of the bat at Citizens Bank Park in 2023. Whether it’s a Schwarbomb, or Trea Turner coming to the plate for the first time, Citizens Bank Park is going to be rocking for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2023. While there are 162 games in a season, there are only 81 games at home in South Philly.
There are so many great teams coming to Philly, especially with MLB’s new schedule of teams playing every team at least once. The big marque matchups are obviously the NL East matchups, but also playoff rematches.
Your money is important, and you work hard for it, so going to games that give you the best bang for your buck is important as well. So, the question is … what series should a Phillies fan circle on the 2023 schedule?
Philadelphia Phillies: The top 5 series at Citizens Bank Park in 2023
Home opener
The Phillies open their season on the road against the Texas Rangers. They will have a full week until they return to Philly for their home opener series against the Cincinnati Reds. While the Reds aren’t the reason why you want to go to this series, there are plenty of reasons for Phillies fans to be there. The pennant raising for the Phillies being National League champs will be on home Opening Day, April 6, plus Opening Night on the 8th and the ring ceremony on the 9th.
The Phillies will be giving away NL 2022 pennants away to all fans during the home opener and Opening Night shirts on the 8th for fans of all ages.
Best of the West?
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be making the trek to Philadelphia for the final regular-season meeting between these two teams beginning on June 9. A weekend series, the Phillies will go up against, which most likely will be, the best of the NL West. Depending on how the first series goes (May 1-3 in Los Angeles), this could be a revenge series for the Phillies or a chance to continue to prove how good they are as the season progresses.
The Phillies have a big promotional weekend starting with a Dick Allen Bobblehead giveaway for fans 15 and over on the 9th. The next night, the Phillies will be hosting an AJR concert after the game. You can purchase field tickets for $30. On the 11th, a father’s appreciation hat will be given away to fans 15 and over. The Phillies will also host a youth baseball and softball celebration night as well.
Rivals show their faces
Late June has an important two-series set. This series starts with the Atlanta Braves coming to town on June 20 and ends with the New York Mets on June 25. This will be the second meeting for both teams and another chance for the Phillies to either gain ground or put distance between themselves and either team (or both). The Phillies beat the Braves to go to the NLCS last season and will most likely have the Braves coming into town to try and take revenge for that. As for the Mets, the Phillies seemed like they couldn’t beat the Mets last year. With NL Manager of the Year Buck Showalter in the opposing dugout, the Phillies will look to win a majority of the series this year and to keep the Mets fans out of Philly (or at least give them a sad drive home).
There are no giveaways, but there are theme nights. On June 20, Strike out the stigma — Mental Health for Veterans will be held. On the 22nd, Nemours Children run the bases and Citizens Businessperson’s Special will both be held together. Pride Night will be held against the Mets on the 23rd.
NLCS rematch!
The Padres did not lose this series because the Phillies were better. We need to all be honest that the guys singing their “song” about the Padres were the reason they lost. Bryce Harper’s swing of his life will forever be echoed in the heads of Phillies fans everywhere. The Padres were trying to go all in this past trade deadline and offseason to be able to compete. The matchup had some great storylines — the Nola brothers, two best players of the 2019 free agency signings, and both teams that haven’t been to the World Series in a long time. This will be a good matchup and test for the Phillies as the Padres could be a team they see in the postseason again. This Series is another weekend series starting on July 14 and another chance for the Phillies to prove they are a top team.
There are no giveaways for this series. There is the second fireworks show, however, on the series opener on July 14.
LOL Mets LOL
The Mets come to Philly for a four-game series starting on September 21. This could either be an extremely huge series for seeding for either teams or meaningless baseball for one of the teams (or both). I believe both teams are going to make the playoffs and would be something if the Mets and Phillies could finally meet in the playoffs. With this being the second-to-last series against the Mets of the season, the Phillies could take advantage and play spoiler at that time. It will also be the second-to-last series at home for the season. The Phillies could not beat the Mets last season and, at this point of the year, it will tell you where both teams are standing whether they are contenders or teams just going to the playoffs.
On September 24, Fan Appreciation Day will be held.
