Draft season is underway so let’s discuss some fantasy baseball options. Who should be considered with the first pick this year?

The most important thing to me in selecting a player that high is to get value across the board. There are many great players to consider who will give you outstanding production in home runs, RBI, and runs. However, you will find as the draft goes on it’s still fairly easy to find those categories.

The players I would consider with the first overall pick are all capable of stealing at least 20 bases. Let’s take a look at those options.

5 MLB players who could be the top pick in your fantasy baseball draft

  • Kyle Tucker had an amazing season with the Houston Astros last year. He hits in a potent lineup and is capable of going 30/30. He’s only 26 years old and is in the prime of his career.
  • Julio Rodriguez has immediately become one of the most exciting players in baseball. He has the most upside of any of these five players and selecting him could pay huge dividends. They are already talking about him in high circles in Seattle.
  • Jose Ramirez simply does it all. Every season he continues to prove why he’s a top five fantasy player. He’s probably the safest pick of the bunch. Just select him and watch the production come in.
  • Trea Turner has a new home in Philadelphia and will probably bat leadoff with great hitters behind him. That will lead to many runs scored. I think he would be my selection if it wasn’t for the last guy on this list.
  • Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered an ACL tear in 2021 but managed to come back from it rather nicely. Concerns about how many bases he would steal coming off the injury made sense, but he put those to rest by stealing 29 bases. I think that if Acuña stays healthy, he has a chance to go 40/40. He almost did this in 2019 (41 homers, 37 steals) playing his only full season.

You can’t really go wrong selecting any of these five players, but my choice would be Ronald Acuña Jr. He can fill up all categories with amazing numbers and help lead you to a fantasy title.

Next. 1 bold prediction for every NL Central team. dark
