March is officially here, and it’s time to look at some of the latest MLB news and notes, including a shoulder injury for a Gold Glove winner for the Colorado Rockies and a pair of tidbits on the San Diego Padres.

Colorado Rockies news: Brendan Rodgers forced from game with shoulder injury

Rodgers, last year’s National League Gold Glove winner at second base, left Tuesday’s game against the Texas Rangers after landing awkwardly on a defensive play early in the contest. Trying to make a diving play on a ground ball, Rodgers had his left shoulder pop out of place. He stayed on the ground after the play, holding his shoulder, and was removed shortly thereafter.

“It popped out on him and they put it back in, not unlike Yonathan Daza last year or other players that the shoulder pops out of the joint,” Colorado manager Bud Black told reporters after the game. “We’ll see tomorrow. We’ll likely know something more in the coming days what the status is and the degree of the trauma in the joint.”

Daza dislocated his shoulder on a defensive play at Coors Field on August 11 and did not return to the Rockies until September 6.

Rodgers is considered day-to-day.

San Diego Padres injury news: Joe Musgrove to miss time

Musgrove has his spot on the Opening Day roster in question after an accident in the weight room that left him with a fractured left big toe. The 30-year-old right-hander will miss “a couple of weeks,” per Padres manager Bob Melvin.

MLB news: Fernando Tatis Jr. returns in a big way for Padres

The 24-year-old Tatis made his spring debut on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants and flashed the skills that made him such a threat for the Padres before injuries and a PED suspension kept him off the field for the entire 2022 campaign.

Tatis went 0-for-2 on the day, but still drew a walk, stole a base, and scored a run in San Diego’s 7-5 win. After the game, he was all smiles on his return in spring.

After finishing out his suspension, Tatis will be eligible to take part in his first MLB game of the regular season no earlier than April 20.
