The Milwaukee Brewers had a great year in 2022 with 86 wins, but they missed the postseason. With no major offseason moves, the Brewers will have to look to their deep prospect pool to make the playoff push this season.

Let’s look at the three Milwaukee Brewers prospects who could make the Opening Day roster.

Youth in the outfield

Sal Frelick’s time in the minor leagues is just about over. The Brewers have had a string of injuries, leaving a hole in right field. Frelick looks to be the right solution for the Brewers’ problem.

Frelick has returned to the Brewers in Arizona for spring training after playing for Italy in the World Baseball Classic. Since returning, he posted a .308 batting average in his first 13 at-bats. Frelick will have an excellent average and has already proved to have the clutch gene by coming up with big hits for Italy.

The Brewers have a need, but they also have several options. However, Frelick is the best and should contend for NL Rookie of the Year.

Milwaukee Brewers 2021 Minor Leauge Player of the Year

Joey Wiemer has been scorching hot this spring. He performed well at Triple-A Nashville last season, hitting .287 after belting 15 home runs in Double-A. Wiemer also swiped 31 bases last year and two already this spring.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell spoke about Wiemer’s presence and performance this spring, saying “That’s why he’s playing. Obviously, he’s close. We have uncertainty in the outfield right now and that’s created some opportunities for guys. He’s here. He’s here and he’s playing,

“If you’re in the lineups at this point as regularly as he is, you can read into that he’s a candidate, absolutely.”

Sound like we could see Wiemer on Opening Day. He is a solid all-around outfielder. Wiemer will be a crucial piece in the Brewers’ young new outfield.

Utility man with wheels

Another name we are seeing pop up in the lineup this spring is infielder Bryce Turang. He had a tremendous year in Triple-A Nashville, hitting .286 with 13 homers and logging 31 stolen bases. Turang also got some time in the show last year when he was called up in September.

Turang is a versatile infielder who can play second, short, or platoon in the outfield. Kolten Wong was traded to the Seattle Mariners, opening up second base for the rookie Turang. With Turang out of minor league options, his time is now.

New Brew Crew

With Jackson Chourio, a superstar rising quickly, the Milwaukee Brewers need to get some talented kids in place and developed. With Turang, Weimer, and Frelick, Brewers fans could see a solid core with good power and speed. That foursome could easily produce a 100-homer/ 70-stolen bases Brew Crew for years to come.
