The New York Yankees are in the same conversation as the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA or the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL as a historic franchise that at times can elicit unrealistic expectations based on the brand alone.

New York is off to a solid start this season and has given fans every reason to believe they are a postseason contender. While this might be true, it is only fair to expect this roster to take a step back from an impressive 2022 season.

The American League East is an improving division and the Yankees are obviously an aging team that did very little to improve a roster that was came up short yet again in the postseason.

Lowering expectations for the 2023 Yankees is important for a roster that can contend for the postseason but clearly isn’t World Series bound. The holes and play style are too obvious for the team to overcome on a roster that is built for the regular season not the post.
