Through games of April 9, there have not been any MLB players hit for the cycle (a single, double, triple and home run in the same game). That’s not surprising; since the start of the 2000 season, there have been on average about four players each year hit for the cycle. In 2022, there were five players who hit for the cycle: Christian Yelich (Milwaukee), Eduardo Escobar (N.Y. Mets), Jared Walsh (L.A. Angels), Austin Hays (Baltimore) and Nolan Arenado (St. Louis).

What’s really interesting about hitting for the cycle, however, is how some teams, four to be exact, have not had one of their players hit for the cycle this century … and one franchise has never had a player hit for the cycle.

The Miami Marlins have never had one of their players hit for the cycle since the franchise started in 1993. The three other teams have had a player hit for the cycle in their history, but not in more than 30 years. The Chicago Cubs last player to hit for the cycle was in 1993 (Mark Grace); the Kansas City Royals have not had a player hit for the cycle since 1990 (George Brett), and the MLB team with the longest drought for a player hitting for the cycle are the Cincinnati Reds. The last player to hit for the cycle in a Reds’ uniform was in 1989 (Eric Davis).
