It’s the beginning of a new week, and time for a look at some of the latest MLB news and notes, including Joc Pederson being less than graceful scoring the go-ahead run for the San Francisco Giants. Let’s also check out how one inning turned the tide for the Boston Red Sox on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

MLB news: Joc Pederson catches flack for scoring San Francisco Giants winning run

In the Sunday Night Baseball game, Pederson would make his triumphant return from the injured list (right wrist inflammation) to have a nice game against the visiting New York Mets. Pederson singled in his first at-bat to drive home LaMonte Wade Jr. and give the Giants a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. He then bookended the scoring for San Francisco by racing from first on an eighth-inning double by Mike Yastrzemski to plate what would be the game-winning run in a 5-4 decision.

While Pederson scored the run, much of the postgame conversation on ESPN was about his slide at home plate and its lack of grace. Pederson rolled with the punches in the interview, poking fun at himself.

Hey, however it looked, it ended up being a winner for the Giants, who split the four-game series with the Mets.

MLB news: Boston Red Sox have an inning to remember against Milwaukee Brewers

Heading into Sunday’s contest, outside of the Tampa Bay Rays, who are now 13-0 at home, no other team had fared better in its own ballpark than the Brewers, a team that had gone 6-2 in its first eight home games. The Boston Red Sox, however, put an end to the mystique in Milwaukee in a hurry in the eighth inning on Sunday.

Boston scored nine times in Sunday’s fateful eighth inning, including Masataka Yoshida hitting two home runs in the frame. One of those was the first grand slam of his young MLB career.

Talk about how Yoshida could be a difference-maker for the Red Sox has swirled since spring training. While he has struggled early, on Sunday, he became just the fourth Boston player to ever hit a pair of homers in the same inning, joining David Ortiz, Nomar Garciaparra and Ellis Burks.

Boston entered the eighth trailing 4-3, but would hit three homers in the inning (including one from Justin Turner) against Matt Bush and Javy Guerra to move to 7-3 in their last 10 games.
