Tampa Bay Rays not only team with record-setting win numbers in April
As we all know, the Tampa Bay Rays won 23 games in April (and March), setting a Major League record. The previous record was 21 wins in April by the 2003 Yankees and the 2018 Red Sox.
The Rays, however, were not the only team to have a record-setting April in the win column. Six teams this season won 18 or more games in April: Tampa Bay (23), Pittsburgh (20), Baltimore (19) and Atlanta, Milwaukee and Toronto (18 each):
· For the Pirates, their 20 wins in April are not only a team record but is tied for the fourth-most in MLB history.
· The Orioles’ 19 wins is a team-best.
· The Blue Jays’ 18 wins is also the most they have had before May 1.
· The Brewers’ 18 wins is tied for the second-most they have had in the month.
· The Braves’ 18 wins was just one victory away from tying a club record.
Speaking of the Milwaukee Brewers, they have been baseball’s best first month team over the past three seasons. The Brewers are 49-27 in games in April/March from 2021-23, a .645 winning percentage. Tampa Bay is second in this stat with a 48-29 (.623) record in the first month.

The Mets have the second-best May winning percentage in the last two years at .655 (36-19) and three teams (Houston, the Dodgers and the Yankees) were each 36-20 in May the last two seasons to tie for the third-best record that month.
