The Kansas City Royals are no stranger to games where they do not score a run. Last season, the Royals were one of three MLB teams that were shut out in three straight games (also the Cardinals and Marlins), and back in 2017 they were only the 14th team in MLB history to be shutout in four straight games, tying a record.
Through games of May 23, there have been 105 games this season where a team has been shut out … that’s about 14% of the games played. Four teams (Arizona, Chicago Cubs, L.A. Angels and Toronto) have not been shut out so far in 2023.

The MLB record for most games being shut out in a season is 33 set by the 1908 St. Louis Browns. The 1909 Washington Senators and 1963 New York Mets are the only other teams to have been shut out in 30 or more games in a season; they each were scoreless in 30 games. The 2023 Royals are on pace to be shutout in 26 games this season. Fifteen teams have been shut out in 26 or more games in a season in MLB history.
