With a solo home run Monday night in Arizona’s 9-1 win over Milwaukee, Arizona Diamondbacks rookie outfielder Corbin Carroll upped his season total to 16. He now leads all rookies in home runs this season.

In addition to the 16 homers, Carroll’s 19 stolen bases are third-most among first-year players this season behind Esteury Ruiz (36) and Ji Hwan Bae (20).

Can Corbin Carroll join Mike Trout?

Carroll is on pace to have 36 home runs and 42 stolen bases for the season. He is just four home runs and one stolen base short of becoming the 14th rookie in MLB history to have a 20 home runs-20 stolen base season. But what is even more impressive is that Carroll, if he reaches the magical 30-30 season in his rookie season, would become only the second rookie in MLB history to have 30 homers and 30 steals. The other? Mike Trout, who as a rookie with the Angels in 2012, had 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases.

MLB rookies with a 20 home run, 20 stolen base season

Here is a look at the previous 13 rookies who had 20-20 seasons.

1966, Tommie Agee, Chicago White Sox, 22 (homers), 44 (stolen bases)
1977, Mitchell Page, Oakland, 21-42
1987, Devon White, California, 24-32
1987, Ellis Burks, Boston, 20-27
1995, Marty Cordova, Minnesota, 24-20
1997, Nomar Garciaparra, Boston, 30-22
1999, Carlos Beltran, Kansas City, 22-27
2007, Chris Young, Arizona, 32-27
2012, Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels, 30-49
2017, Andrew Benintendi, Boston, 20-20
2021, Randy Arozarena, Tampa Bay, 20-20
2022, Bobby Witt, Kansas City, 20-30
2022, Julio Rodriguez, Seattle, 28-25

Last season a pair of rookies reached the 20-20 mark in home runs and steals for the first time since 1987. There is a possibility that in addition to Carroll that another rookie could have a 20-20 season. Milwaukee’s Joey Wiemer has 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases though the Brewers first 72 games of the season. He is on a pace to finish with 23 home runs and 23 stolen bases.

While Carroll would become the second Arizona rookie to reach 20-20 in a season (Chris Young did it in 2007), Wiemer would become the first Brewer to do so. The Brewers had two rookies reach 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases in their first seasons: Wayne Comer had 15 homers and 18 steals as a member of the Seattle Pilots, while Ryan Braun had 34 home runs and 15 steals in his rookie season for the Brewers in 2007.

One more stat: Of the 13 rookies who had a 20-20 season, six were named Rookie of the Year that season: Agee, Cordova, Garciaparra, Beltran, Trout and Rodriguez.
