With less than a week until the MLB trade deadline, let’s check in on the MLB rumors surrounding the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals.

MLB rumors: Aaron Judge returning from injured list soon?

There is no question that the New York Yankees have missed having the reigning American League MVP in the lineup since he went on the injured list on June 7 (retroactive to June 4) with a right great toe sprain. However, there have been signs that Judge was closing in on a return date. Now we may know exactly when that could happen.

While it’s possible that Judge could return in time to face Baltimore, Chris Kirschner, who covers the Yankees for The Athletic, believes that “more progress is needed for that to happen.”

It could be an aggressive timeline, but the Yankees are running out of time to get a much-needed boost in their offense from Judge, who was slashing .291/.404/.674 with 19 home runs and 40 RBI at the time of his injury. With the Yankees entering Tuesday’s play tied with the Boston Red Sox at the bottom of the AL East (and in the Wild Card chase, 2.5 games out of a spot), getting Judge back in the lineup quickly yet safely is a priority in the Bronx.

Will it be this weekend in Baltimore? Having Judge back before the MLB trade deadline could be a boost for a Yankees team that posted a losing record in July and is under .500 for the month of August as well.

UPDATE: Joel Sherman of The New York Post is reporting Judge will be activated on Friday.

MLB rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers eyeing St. Louis Cardinals superstar in trade?

Could the Los Angeles Dodgers be looking to upgrade at third base with a generational talent? Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com recently wrote that the Dodgers could be looking at Nolan Arenado, currently with the St. Louis Cardinals, as a potential trade talent to man the hot corner for years to come.

“The Dodgers have long been enamored of Arenado, 32, and they see third base as a need they’ll have to address in the offseason given their present construction,” Gonzalez said.

Arenado is very familiar with the Dodgers, both through his eight seasons with the Colorado Rockies as well as being a native of Southern California (born in Newport Beach and attending high school in Lake Forest). However, it has been said that the Cardinals will not be trading Paul Goldschmidt or Arenado at the trade deadline, despite the Cardinals entering the end of the month as sellers.

Could the Dodgers put together a package of pitching prospects that would be enough to entice the Cardinals into making a trade. On the surface, it seems unlikely, but it is something to keep an eye on.

MLB rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers not done with trade deadline yet

After making a deal on Tuesday to acquire Enrique Hernandez from the Boston Red Sox, it sounds like Los Angeles still has more holes to plug in its roster as it prepares for a postseason run.

According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com, “A right-handed hitter is still a main target for the Dodgers, along with help for both their rotation and their bullpen.”

Hernandez and his versatility is expected to pay dividends for Los Angeles as he joins Chris Taylor and Mookie Betts as Dodgers who can flip between the infield and outfield when needed. The 31-year-old Hernandez played six seasons in Los Angeles and helped the Dodgers win the World Series in the pandemic-shortened season of 2020 before signing as a free agent with the Red Sox.

The Dodgers are one of several teams who are reportedly looking to upgrade their rotation and bullpen, so the price may be high for Los Angeles to get the pitchers they want. However, trading away prospects to boost the current roster has never been an issue for the Dodgers in the past and certainly shouldn’t be this season either.
